UON is the name for an experienced company that's been providing power generation, air compressors and water pumping solutions to industry since 1998. We provide the integration of modular products in one simplified process, from conception to hire or purchase to on-going support.

An exciting opportunity has presented itself within our Project Delivery division. UON is currently seeking an experienced, motivated and professional Project Coordinator/Project Engineer. 

This position is currently a short term assignment; however it does have the potential to move onto a permanent position for the right candidate. This position is ideal for a Project Engineer looking to take the next step in their career looking to move into a Project Management style role.

This role will be reporting directly to the Executive Director of Operations who expects a high level of communication and detailed real-time project information. This role also requires integration with our site teams and a 'hands on' approach is a must. 

You will be required to oversee and manage the successful delivery of all aspects, across multiple projects, relating to dewatering infrastructure and power generation including but not limited to planning and execution of the project schedule - including safety requirements, budgeting and forecasting, stakeholder management, commercial advice, contract management including EOI's, NOD's, variations and progress claims as well as provide client management services at a senior level.

Key duties of this role include:

  • Assuming overall responsibility in the project coordination  
  • Required to formulate, manage and monitor multiple operation teams and clients.
  • Producing capital budgets and forecasts
  • Working closely with the Project Administration and Contracts Administration team
  • Provide execution support to the Project Management Teams
  • Provide our clients commercial support to ensure we are continuously meeting their expectations and agreed outcomes
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to manage project risks and priorities
  • Direct application of capital and people resources to maximise operating efficiency
  • Identify and develop process improvement opportunities to further the Project Delivery Team capabilities 
  • Ensure compliance with client and UON HSE policies, procedures and systems
  • Maintain professional interaction with clients and suppliers at all times, ensuring positive working relationships are developed and maintained
  • Assist the teams to ensure compliance relating to high risk work.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring of personnel
  • Maintain a positive and productive working culture

To be successful in this role it is essential you have the following:

  • 5+ years' in a Project Engineer role or similar experience in a similar position
  • Proven success in a Project Engineer role
  • Experience in dewatering, civil, earthworks and electrical projects ideally part if not all of the disciplines
  • A relevant qualification in Project Engineering/Project Management/Business Management
  • Contract management of minor and major works
  • Exceptional and professional communication skills, particularly at a senior client management level
  • Experience in all stakeholder engagement including the client, suppliers and third party contractors
  • Understanding of financial and risk management principles
  • Strong focus on fostering a positive HSE culture within the company
  • A proactive and can do attitude
  • Excellent time management and task prioritisation skills
  • Prior experience in Iron Ore in particular with Rio Tinto/BHP is highly regarded
  • Willing to work on remote sites for extended periods on a FIFO basiS

You will be required to travel to remote sites throughout Western Australia on various rosters

UON is currently seeking an experienced, motivated Design Draftspersonto join the Quality & Engineering team. This is a contract position expected to run for no more than 3 months, however it does have the potential to move onto a permanent position for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be responsible for;

  • Provide technical drawings using routine CAD methods and techniques to UON and client requirements, inclusive of Product General Arrangement, Fabrication, Pipeline, General Equipment Site layouts type technical drawings for Dewatering and Power Generation.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure Projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Review drawings from Engineers and drafting contractors for adherence to UON standards
  • Produce drawings for multiple disciplines
  • Work closely with other departments to produce drawings in line with client requirements
  • Manage and maintain project documentation and drawings register
  • Provide design / drafting and commissioning management for assigned projects
  • Ensuring standards, legislation and industry best practice is adhered to and continuous improvement within UON Quality & Engineering standards
  • Provide expert technical advice to internal and external UON stakeholders
  • Professional interaction with clients at all times ensuring positive working relationships are developed and maintained
  • Develop reports as required
  • Actively contribute to research and development initiatives  within UON
  • Undertake review of projects with the project department on completion of contractual agreements

To be successful in this role you must possess the following key requirements:

  • Minimum of an Advanced Diploma in Drafting
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with AutoCAD in both 2D & 3D design
  • Autodesk Inventor experience would be highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Mechanical design with a minimum of 5 years’ in a similar role
  • Civil design experience will be highly desirable although not essential
  • The ability to produce CAD conformance drawings to our clients standards
  • Experience in manufacturing design
  • An understanding of fabrication, mechanical and electrical installs
  • Experience within the mining and resources industry essential working with clients like BHP & Rio Tinto
  • Strong focus on fostering a positive HSE culture within the company

  • Proactive and positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Willing to contribute in a positive manner no matter the task.
