Yandi is a Rio Tinto iron ore mine, 92 km from the town of Newman. Pit progression would eliminate two of the five existing bores affecting dewatering for mining operations plus the supply of potable water and dust suppression water. Our job was to provide pumps and power for three new bores and upgrade the pumping capacity of the three existing ones.
UON were the lead contractors and responsible for the completion of the project. This is one of the first times Rio Tinto have awarded this type of project to a single contractor. The works required a high degree of communication and co-ordination with mining operations to minimise down time of the water supply and for works occuring in the mining area.
