Lang Hancock Hope Downs

Lang Hancock Hope Downs is a $1.3 billion iron ore mine 75 km from Newman in northwest Western Australia. Our job was to supply power to the mines accommodation village which houses 600 workers.

 

Project fact file:

• 2 x 1000 kVA containerised generators
• 1 x 6000 A switchroom with fire protection fencing and acoustic barriers
• HV reclosers
• IMW load bank
• Fuel piping and control
• Concrete footings

As part of this project, UON had to upgrade the old HV switchyard and install a high current switchboard with Arcfault protection. Power generation can be controlled from outside the power room with a touch screen; and monitored and controlled through the mine sites SCADA system using UON-designed telemetry.
